BREAKING NEWS: Taxi driver shot in Tampa

A Yellow cab driver was dropping off in North Boulevard homes. I am phone calls but no info yet. The story below just broke. I dont work the projects and this is why:

police are investigating after a cab driver was shot in the chest early Tuesday morning.

Officials say a taxicab driver was dropping off his passenger at 1100 W. Chestnut Street when a suspect suddenly appeared next to the taxi with a shotgun in his hands.

The suspect pointed a gun through the cab driver's window and demanded money.

The cab driver tossed money out of the window and suspect shot the driver in the chest with a shotgun.

The taxicab driver drove off with his passenger still in the vehicle and got 100 yards to the intersection of W. Chestnut and N. Willow, where he crashed into a police car that was patrolling the area.

The officer approached the driver and realized he had been shot.

The officer, who was not injured from the crash, called an ambulance for the cab driver.

The passenger in the back seat of the taxi had attempted to exit the car during the robbery, but was unable to get out.

He is not suspected of being a part of the robbery.

He wasn't harmed during the crash.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5'7" to 5'8", wearing all dark clothing.

He fled the scene and has not been captured. About a half hour before the shooting, Tampa Police says a caller reported a suspect seen walking around the area with a gun.

The cab driver is in serious condition at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was not been identified
