Gas In Tampa March 10, 2010 |
Most people I talk to have no idea that taxi drivers buy their own gas. They think the company supplies that for us. There may be a subsidy on the horizon.
The Hillsborough County Public Transportation Commission will allow drivers to charge an additional dollar for the gas. I don't see that working out very well. How do you tell someone that has already given you a tip that they owe you one more dollar?
I understand many drivers are having trouble with the new computer dispatch system. I think in the long run it will be to our advantage. It is too bad that the drivers had to shoulder the load during the best months in Florida for the cab business. Maybe next year will be better.

Regarding the extra $1.00 for a surcharge, same song different dance. There was a time that they tired that when I was still working. I never did it, I felt it would hurt the tip money. However, I did inform my fare that I wouldn't be charging them the extra dollar. Our ole Prez is going to have to get into the reserve oil as he did during Kitrna. But with the earthquake in Japan that is going to be another problem. No telling how much money he will send over there. Be careful out there. UC157 Larry
I can hardly deny that you are definitely correct.Even our normal driver will be afraid of petrol price going up,not to mention the taxi drivers.
There is the truth that taxi drivers have to buy the petrol by themselves for work from time to time. It's unfair that the customers don't know this but just think the petrol is supplied by taxi company.
Wish that the political issue in mid-east can be finished shortly so that the price of petrol won't seriously impact us anymore.
The petrol price has already killed me invisibly.I would rather take the train to city for work now.
