Taking down the RNC barricade

It looks like downtown is getting back to normal. The cleanup operation is underway. By Tuesday the off brand cab companies will be sucking hind tit. A fate fit for them.

United cab drivers will be enjoying a national holiday and a couple days off. Winners do that from time to time.

Steve came by the shop

Many people in the cab business in Tampa know Steve the United Cab mechanic. He has been out sick for the past few months. He may actually retire on disability. He came by the shop the other day to say hi, and get his tools.

Many folks gathered around to wish him well and get caught up on stuff. Steve was working for United when I started in 1995. Hard to believe its been that long.

Anyway, he looked good and I told him he was much better off getting away from the grind. You look better and feel better without the stress.

Tampa airport off the chain

Many people and delegates to the RNC were coming in today. The photo below shows Paul Hinton loading luggage as a starter. It was one of the busiest days ever at Tampa International Airport. United Cab drivers made a lot of money. Over the bay trips were common.
Too bad if you are a scab driver and have been fired by United Cab and have to work for Nancy or Cab Plus. You pay out the ass and get nothing in return. That is because you are worthless and have no vision beyond being a Taxi slave.
That means you were unable to get a piece of this. It sucks to be you.

BREAKING NEWS: Delegates in route from Clearwater Beach

I was just now dropping off at the Marriott hotel on Sand Key and the delegates that have filled that hotel were loading to go to the convention.

Many are staying in Clearwater and thats a good choice. The storm is gone and it is beautiful out here. It looks like they are having a good time.

Guy Fawkes comes to Tampa

A few days ago in downtown Tampa this graffiti was found on an old building. It is Guy Fawkes the symbol of the occupy and anonymous movement.
On the roof was found a stash of pipes and bricks. Authorities believe violence is intended for Tampa. That is if they will ever get this convention going.
The national guard is downtown and they look like they can handle anything that goes down.

RNC a bust?

So far the Republican National Convention has been a dud. Other then a few busy hours at the airport, not much else is going on. The street calls are at a normal level.

I know thete is a hurricane in the Gulf, so we will see what happens when that moves away. My gut says bust.

Tampa downtown shutdown for RNC

If you live in Tampa and ever wondered what Marshall law looks like, just go downtown. There is a steel parameter fence too rival the Berlin wall. Citizens that pay taxes are not allowed in. All this because of a private event?

Mitt Romney is a citizen (he says he's unemployed) and they have drones flying overhead and the crosstown is closed.

Before I start sounding like Alex Jones,  I stand to make a lot of money off this event. Go GOP.

RNC may be disrupted by hurricane

By scheduling the RNC for Tampa on the last week of August, they were taking the risk of a major hurricane hitting Florida during the event. It now looks like that is what will happen. Forecast have hurricane Issac impacting central Florida next week.

Obama gets to declare a national state of emergency and go on air during the speeches. You just handed this guy what he wanted.

Taxi Slaves - a documentary

Eric Martin of Chicago is currently producing a documentary film about the abuse and exploitation that exist in the Chicago taxi industry and believes this is endemic across the United. States. He hopes his efforts lead to reform at the legal and political level. I am at risk of my job by commenting further on this matter. I don't want to shit where I eat. However, I support all forms of free speech, and believe documentaries can be very effective (Edward R. Murrow HARVEST OF SHAME about exploitation of migrant farm workers lead to Bobby Kennedy's involvement) . As you know, the RNC. will be here next week. Not too many sympathetic ears in that group.

Missing dog in south Tampa

I found this flyer on my taxi this morning as I was going to work. This little dog "Snowflake" is missing and his family needs him home. If you have seen this dog, the contact information is provided. Let's bring Snowflake home!

What the RNC will see upon arriving in Tampa

The first thing they will see is the airport. Tampa international airport has been remodeled to make it look nice for the Republican delegates.

The next thing they will see is a collection of road signs when leaving the airport. They will direct you to Clearwater, St Petersburg and downtown Tampa.

There is much to do in the Tampa Bay area. I just hope they do it in a United Cab - Tampa's finest taxi company. the

Night summer rains

It seems the rain we are getting this summer is starting late in the afternoon, and continuing through the night. This is good. We do need the rain.

The problem is that it may be hurting the night business a little. The Yellow cab here is a friend of mine and I notice he is home early every morning. He says it is really slow right now.

Usan Bolt wins Olympic 100 meter sprint

Just moments ago Usain Bolt of Jamaica won the men's 100 meter sprint in an Olympic record of 9.63. Jason Gatlin (9.79) of the United States was third and Tyson Gay (9.80) was forth.
Bolt won this event for the second time while the 2004 Olympic 100 meter champ, Gatlin, was defeated after a fast start. Jamaican Yohan Blake (9.75) was second. Man, that was a fast race.
The Florida native Gatlin was coming off of a four year ban for substance use. He settled for bronze.
This race was run while NBC was showing women's volleyball. Is it just me or are you getting tired of this coverage?

Jenny McCarthy poses nude for Playboy at age forty

One of the most famous centerfolds ever, Jenny McCarthy, has posed nude again for Playboy at the tender age of forty. I have to say, she looks great.

They use Photoshop now to airbrush images and get skin tone correct. Having done glamour nude photography before, it helps to have an outstanding model. Something tells me they did not have to do much work on her images.

Paunch was let go

A long time United Cab driver Paunch has been let go. Boy is he going to enjoy the down time. This is what is happening now, Gulf Coast Transportation is now letting drivers go that owe a lot of money. Perhaps, that is good.

All things need an equilibrium point. The company has been carrying too many drivers who have not been cutting it. I know it sounds cruel, but in this economy, I need to survive. Everyone they get rid of is just one more guy that is not in my way. Sorry.

I must live.

Long lines at Chick-Fil-A in Tampa

I was trying to get into the Tahitian Inn on south Dale Mabry yesterday next to the Chick-Fill-A restaurant. I had to come in through the back because the line of cars went for miles

I immediately knew that it must be some kind of counter protest for the pro marriage comments made by the president of the company. I could tell he had tremendous support for that.

Now, the gays are going to protest by having a kiss in this week at the restaurant. Cool. I would like to see two hot lipstick lesbians going at. That would make a good photo.
